What is FactoryTalk Optix? FactoryTalk® Optix™ is a comprehensive platform for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) networking, edge computing, and data management. Think of it as a middleman that connects assets and systems to Fiix® CMMS. From PLCs to sensors to SCADA systems, FactoryTalk Optix facilitates the integrations you need to unlock true condition-based maintenance and reach new levels of maintenance efficiency. Fewer unnecessary inspections Faster response times to issues More accurate downtime tracking Increased asset reliability Connect your CMMS to the plant floor All major brands of PLCs Machine sensors, like temperature and vibration SCADA, MES, and DCS Historians & protocols like MQTT or OPC UA Or talk to us about integrating your custom system or unique data source Smarter preventive maintenance Upgrade from time-based scheduling to triggering work on cycle counts and sensor readings True condition-based maintenance Respond faster to anomalies on key assets with real-time status information, plus automated downtime tracking Easier asset troubleshooting Find the root cause by linking alarms, asset events, and fault codes to your CMMS Intelligent work order creation Get prescriptive maintenance steps based on asset fault codes (on eligible Rockwell Automation devices) We've seen old issues fall off. Things like motor pumps and bearing replacements. They've all decreased [since the integrations]. In fact, the assets you’re looking to integrate may already be part of the Rockwell Automation ecosystem. Fiix CMMS was created by maintenance professionals for maintenance professionals, with over 400 years of experience on staff Let our team of technology experts design, build, and test your integration. We’ll then provide go-live support to get your condition-based maintenance program off the ground. Getting Started Schedule a discovery call with our team of machine integration experts by reaching out to your Fiix representative or our sales team below. Pricing and Requirements A one-time charge applies for the design, build, testing, and deployment of the Fiix CMMS + FactoryTalk Optix integration After initial setup, an annual fee of $3,000 per network provides ongoing software licensing and auto-renewal, supported by 10 Professional Services hours for integration support and troubleshooting Fiix CMMS Enterprise is required See the FAQ section below or our technical requirements (opens in new tab) document for more information Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) What is condition-based maintenance? Condition-based maintenance (CbM) is a maintenance strategy in which asset data is integrated into your CMMS to help you decide what actions to take—and when. It can take the form of automatically triggering inspections or work orders based on usage, alarms, and other machine events. CbM does not predict when an asset is likely to fail. Instead, it relies on real-time status information to make maintenance decisions. For certain Rockwell Automation devices, integrations can also automatically prescribe actions in generated work orders through FactoryTalk Optix device libraries. This is referred to as prescriptive maintenance (PxM). Are you ready for condition-based maintenance? When assessing whether hardware integrations and condition-based maintenance are right for your maintenance program, there are two main factors to consider:

Data Availability Condition-based maintenance is the logical next step for teams already collecting asset data (from PLCs, historians, etc.). This means it’s a great fit for plants with devices connected to a local network. It can be more challenging to implement condition-based maintenance when assets are distributed across a wide area or with older hardware that is less data-rich (or not producing data at all). Process Readiness If you’re making heavy use of time-based (calendar-based) maintenance triggers, integrations allow you to replace those with usage-based triggers (e.g. cycle counts, machine run time, etc.). This generally boosts maintenance efficiency by cutting down on unnecessary PMs and inspections—triggering work only when it’s really needed. And if you’re currently entering meter or event data manually, integrations can further boost your maintenance efficiency by automating this process. Fiix CMMS Enterprise is required for FactoryTalk Optix integrations. How is FactoryTalk Optix installed? FactoryTalk Optix runtime software is installed on an on-premises industrial PC or virtual machine. This software will run as a service, removing the need to start the project with a system reboot. How does the software get data from my Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) or other industrial devices/assets? FactoryTalk Optix reads back tag values from PLCs using standard industrial protocols like EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, Modbus TCP, TwinCAT. FactoryTalk Optix also supports communication over IoT protocols like MQTT, and database connections using ODBC. What types of PLCs can the software collect data from? FactoryTalk Optix supports PLCs from many major PLC vendors including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, OMRON, and Beckhoff. Is it possible for the software to affect the operation of the PLC by reading from it? No. Our FactoryTalk Optix projects are configured read-only at low frequencies to avoid high network bandwidth usage. Is it possible to write to the PLCs? No. Our FactoryTalk Optix deployments are configured as read-only, so there is no chance of writing to a controller or affecting the process. How is data sent to the Fiix CMMS cloud software? Data from FactoryTalk Optix is sent to Fiix via the API, which supports secure connections over TLS 1.2. Is there a limit on how many tags (meter readings and alarms) can be connected? No, the only limitation is network bandwidth, not number of tags or meter readings. How do we know that FactoryTalk Optix software is secure and reliable? FactoryTalk Optix is designed by Rockwell Automation with security in mind. Sensitive project variables are encrypted using remote key stores, and communication protocols like MQTT, OPC UA, and ODBC support secure authentication methods. What is included in the annual recurring fee? Software licensing License management: auto-renewals, uptime, error log reviews Up to 10 Professional Services hours for integration support and troubleshooting Is custom deployment available? While most projects will implement common solution patterns, each of our OT integrations is fully customizable. Our team of OT solution consultants will build a project that fully meets the needs of your organization. How long does it typically take to complete the implementation? A typical project is divided into four stages, with the following timelines. These are subject to change based on the size of the project and the number of customizations. Scoping and Discovery (~4 weeks) Establish a set of solution patterns that will target the highest value for your organization. Develop an understanding of the existing infrastructure and access points for the integration. Establish a set of solution patterns that will target the highest value for your organization. Project Proposal (~1 week) Based on the discovery in phase 1, we will submit a proposal and Statement of Work for you to review. At this point, you can submit feedback on the proposal, and we will apply adjustments until we agree on an implementation design. Please note that these times are estimates and may change based on a customer’s ability to meet the necessary requirements. What does Fiix require from the customer? Our team of OT integration specialists will require temporary remote access to an on-site industrial PC or virtual machine, which will act as the host for FactoryTalk Optix. Additionally, we will work with your process control and maintenance specialists to establish a mapping from tag addresses to Fiix assets. What’s included in the standard implementation? Our standard Professional Services package includes hours for design, implementation, testing, and deployment of a FactoryTalk Optix project. See above for a description of what is included in our recurring annual fee.
