I have two Excel files under Sharepoint. In the first Excel file, I have some informations I need for my second excel sheet. To do so, in the second file, I used the following formula to create an external link : ='https://XXX.sharepoint.com/sites/XXX/XXX/XXX/[XXX.xlsx]Synthèse'!F7 The problem is... it doesn't work and when I open the second file, they say "External links are not activated" How can I do so that the connection is effective under sharepoint ? I did a test as you to reference a cell from an Excel workbook stored on SharePoint, but I cannot reproduce the problem. After opening the two workbooks stored in SharePoint using Excel desktop client , try to reference from there and check the result. To check the Data, Connections and Formulas, Name Manager for unused links that might have been retained when the worksheet(s) were split off from another larger workbook with the references.

The problem may exist if you've copied a data validation range over from another workbook. To fix it, go to the sheet, Home > Down arrow next to Find and Select > Data Validation . This will select the cells that have Data Validation applied. Now Data > Data Validation , and fix the broken reference in the "Source" field, or click "Clear All" if you don't need it.
