Set on an 11,000-square-foot plot, the bungalow blends neoclassical principles with Indian design interventions—symmetrical massing, classical proportions, thick masonry, grand arches, and jalis for ventilation. There is a restrained, almost imperial austerity to it. A standout highlight this year was The Bawa Pavilion, a special collaboration celebrating the legacy of Geoffrey Bawa through an immersive design installation. The showcase brought together iconic furniture pieces and thoughtful storytelling, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the master architect’s world. Adding to the atmosphere, a live performance by Lifafa brought music into the mix creating a seamless blend of design, culture, and experience. The show also featured the much-awaited AD Discoveries pavilion spotlighting 40+ emerging designers and limited-edition collectibles, alongside curated walkthroughs, the vibrant AD Café, and a dynamic lineup of AD Sessions. A special moment at the AD Lounge was p é r o’s Homecoming runway presentation. From Amy Astley in conversation with Kelly Wearstler to discussions led by leading voices in architecture and craft, the event created a platform where design met inspiration, art, and cultural exchange, reaffirming Mumbai as the epicentre of India’s luxury design movement. In Nagaland’s Dimapur, a soft golden light illuminates unvarnished, raw designs in a minimalist studio. The wood-on-wood look and white walls invite the visitor to take in the details, minor and bold—from the textured top of tables to earthy vases. Here, Ajung Yaden and Atem Longkumer are busy at work marrying tradition and modernity through Tribolt, their young furniture and interiors venture. The brand’s rootedness in the Naga identity and culture is far from being mere lip service; it is defined by vital decisions such as using traditional carving techniques, employing local tools like daos (long blades), and working with Naga youth and artisans to create opportunities. “We actively strive to support the preservation of tribal art traditions. To us, our designs and practice are tools for the promotion of intercultural dialogue and understanding—a way to foster empathy and respect among diverse communities,” says Longkumer. Their perseverance has been rewarded with appreciation by locals, who comprise a significant part of their clientele, alongside a growing number of patrons outside the state.
