YouTube Shorts is a way for anyone to connect with a new audience using just a smartphone and the Shorts camera in the YouTube app. YouTube's Shorts creation tools make it easy to create short-form videos that are up to three minutes long with our multi-segment camera. Changes to Shorts views count Since 31 March 2025, we've updated how Shorts views are counted. Views will count the number of times that a Short starts to play or replay, with no minimum watch time requirement. This update will give creators a more complete view of how their short-form videos are doing, especially when they share content on different platforms. We will keep the existing Shorts views metric, now called 'Engaged views', in YouTube Analytics so that you can see how many viewers chose to continue watching your video. This change will not directly impact YouTube Partner Programme (YPP) eligibility and Shorts ad revenue sharing. They will both be based on 'Engaged Shorts views'. Here's how: Sign in to the YouTube app . Tap Create and select Short . Hold Capture or tap it to start recording and then again to stop.
